Who was the witch Rhiannon?
Rhiannon herself is a figure in Welsh mythology, a manifestation of two Irish and Gaulish goddesses. She's best known from The Mabinogion, a collection of medieval Welsh myths. She appears on a pale horse in the book, a symbol well known to represent death.
Rhiannon is the name of a Welsh goddess. According to myth, Rhiannon, the goddess of fertility and the moon, shuns a god and marries a mortal man. That god then frames her for the murder of her own son, and she is forced to stand at the entrance to a city and tell everyone entering that she killed her child.
Stand Back
Songfacts®: The "gypsy" is the free and fearless side of one's personality, which Stevie Nicks channels in this song. Stevie Nicks wrote this song and planned to include it on her 1980 solo album Bella Donna. She didn't have room for it on the album, so she held it over for Fleetwood Mac's Mirage album.

With Pwyll she has a son, the hero Pryderi, who later inherits the lordship of Dyfed. She endures tragedy when her newborn child is abducted, and she is accused of infanticide.
In a 1979 interview with Rolling Stone Nicks described just how real Rhiannon had become, “She is some sort of reality. If I didn't know she was a mythical character, I would think she lived down the street.” The song itself has two different tones divided between the verses and the chorus.
In the earliest prose stories in Britain in the Mabinogi, the Adar Rhiannon; "birds of Rhiannon", are specifically three magical birds, whose song can "wake the dead and lull the living to sleep". They also have a non-rational effect on space as they can be remote but seem very near.
Borrowed from the Welsh, Rhiannon is an ancient Celtic name of uncertain derivation. Some believe it to be derived from the Old Celtic Rigantona (great queen). The name, which is borne in Celtic Mythology by a goddess of fertility, was not used as a given name until the 20th century.
“It was so overwhelming,” she later recalled after Prince suggested that the pair work in his song 'Purple Rain'. “I listened to it and I just got scared. I called him back and said, 'I can't do it.
What song did Prince give to Stevie Nicks?
Prince co-wrote 'Stand Back' with Stevie Nicks after she'd flown the Fleetwood Mac coop and was a chart star in her own right. Even crediting 'Little Red Corvette' as the track's inspiration, Nicks reached No. 5 in the Billboard Hot 100 on its release.
In the top spot we have her collaboration with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, “Stop Draggin' My Heart Around,” which peaked at No. 3 on the Hot 100 chart on Sept. 5, 1981 and is also Tom Petty's biggest hit on the chart.

"Gypsy" is commonly used to describe the Romani people. But the term carries many negative connotations, and its derivative carries even more: when somebody is "gypped," they are, according to Merriam-Webster, "defrauded, swindled, cheated."
Gypsy (plural Gypsies) (sometimes offensive) A member of the Romani people, or one of the sub-groups (Roma, Sinti, Romanichal, etc). A member of other nomadic peoples, not only of the Romani people; a traveller.
Roma (Gypsies) originated in the Punjab region of northern India as a nomadic people and entered Europe between the eighth and tenth centuries C.E. They were called "Gypsies" because Europeans mistakenly believed they came from Egypt. This minority is made up of distinct groups called "tribes" or "nations."
The prophet's spirit offered no advice regarding the best course of action against the assembled forces of the Philistines, but did accurately predict Saul's ruination. So potent is the imagery of the Witch of Endor and her taboo power that it appears in various forms in art, literature, and even popular culture.
Anna Göldi (also Göldin or Goeldin, 24 October 1734 – 13 June 1782) was an 18th-century Swiss housemaid who was one of the last persons to be executed for witchcraft in Europe. Göldi, who was executed by decapitation in Glarus, has been called the "last witch" in Switzerland.

Is Rhiannon male or female?
Rhiannon is a feminine Welsh given name (pronounced [r̥iˈanɔn]) and may refer to: Rhiannon Braund, New Zealand academic and registered pharmacist.
"Rhiannon" (also released as "Rhiannon (Will You Ever Win)") is a song written by Stevie Nicks and originally recorded by the British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac on their eponymous album in 1975; it was issued as a single the following year. The song's U.S. chart peak was in June 1976, when it hit no. 11.
Emily Kaiser Wickersham (born April 26, 1984) is an American actress. She portrayed Rhiannon Flammer in a recurring role of The Sopranos.
The Phainopepla is a singular bird of the Southwest. There is, for instance, the songbird's unusual looks: With its shining black plumage, fierce crimson eyes, and punk-rock crest, the male has been likened to a goth cardinal (it's actually a member of the silky flycatcher family).
In Celtic lore, the magpie was a bird associated with fairy revels; with the spread of Christianity, however, this changed to a connection with witches and devils.

It's known as one of the best break-up songs ever written and has also been considered to be one of the greatest songs of all time. For the artist who had a hit with it, Nothing Compares 2 U is so universal in its emotional resonance because it is about loss – a loss that can mean something different to everyone.
Prince also gave a surprising answer when probed about his favourite song in his back catalogue. He didn't say 'Purple Rain', 'Kiss', or 'When Doves Cry', but, instead, he chose a yet-to-be-released track by 3rdeyegirl, which appeared on his next album.
Stevie Nicks has said that she consciously chose not to have children of her own, due to her demanding career and desire to follow her art: "My mission maybe wasn't to be a mom and a wife; maybe my particular mission was to write songs to make moms and wives feel better."
“I come to find out, after I've written the song, that in fact Rhiannon was the goddess of steeds, maker of birds,” Nicks explains. “Her three birds sang music, and when something was happening in war you would see Rhiannon come riding in on a horse.
Background. Stevie Nicks is the White Witch, who writes and sings Rock N Roll songs with her band Fleetwood Mac. She has been active in the music industry since 1966, when she was 18.
During the “Boy Wonder” episode, Nicks performed her song “Gypsy” for the witches and warlocks.
Who was Ceridwen?
Ceridwen was a mythical witch, and according to legend, was the wife of Tegid Foel, the giant after whom Llyn Tegid, Y Bala, was named. Ceridwen and Tegid had a son called Morfran, but he was so unsightly that the people of the area called him Afagddu.
Her longstanding popularity shows Nicks has inspired many generations with her music. Her legendary status comes from her pioneering actions as one of the famous women in music and in rock n' roll.
Jadis is the main antagonist of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (1950) and The Magician's Nephew (1955) in C. S. Lewis's series, The Chronicles of Narnia. She is commonly referred to as the White Witch in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, as she is the Witch who froze Narnia in the Hundred Years Winter.
Although the White Witch appears human (despite her unnatural skin colour and above average height), she is of a race that is apparently descended from Adam's first wife, Lilith, and was apparently part-Jinn and part-giant.
The Lady of the Green Kirtle is sometimes believed to have been Jadis, the White Witch, in a resurrected state.

The Tuatha Dé Danann was a magical race that possessed supernatural powers. Most of them were god-like creatures or divine beings that were being worshipped. This race was also known to believe in Goddess Danu.
The Dagda is said to be husband of the Morrígan, who is called his "envious wife". His children include Aengus, Cermait, and Aed (often called the three sons of the Dagda), Brigit and Bodb Derg. He is said to have two brothers, Nuada and Ogma, but this may be an instance of the tendency to triplicate deities.
