About the Band
Saturdays at the Capstone would not be the same without the excitement provided by the 400 members of the Million Dollar Band, which is one of the most respected university marching bands in the country.
No one is positive how the University of Alabama marching band got the name the Million Dollar Band.
“Rammer Jammer,” takes its name from a defunct student magazine at Alabama that was published for several decades beginning the 1920s. As the story goes, the chant was created by cheerleaders on a bus ride back to Tuscaloosa from a game at Mississippi State in 1982.

Founded in 1894, the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band is a 300+member military marching band, making it the biggest such band in the country. Under the direction of Dr. Timothy Rhea, the band is known for its military precision. The band plays and marches at every Texas A&M football home game and many away games as well.
Alabama's Million Dollar Band, however, won't be making the trip. Recent reports cite the reason as “controversial proposed seating arrangements” and a “limited number of available seats” for band members. Those proposed arrangements would have the band sitting in a top-deck nosebleed section of the stadium.
